Micheal Merola, General Counsel

As the General Counsel, Michael Merola is responsible for leading the organization’s legal functions and establishing legal strategies and infrastructure to support, protect and enhance the growth of the business. Mike works closely with senior leadership as well as the finance and development teams in providing counsel on project-related acquisitions, financing, construction and development matters, corporate governance issues and property management and employee matters. ​

Mike brings more than 25 years of experience as a real estate and corporate law attorney. Prior to joining Article Student Living, Mike served as the general counsel of Nabr, a startup founded by prominent real estate industry veterans, focused on delivering sustainable and customizable multifamily homes at scale. Previously, Mike served more than a decade as general counsel of New York based development firms The Continuum Company and Youngwoo & Associates where he oversaw the legal functions relating to the development and financing of complex commercial real estate projects including joint ventures, co-investments, acquisitions and dispositions. Mike’s work involved the development of large-scale projects in New York city and nationally across multi-family, mixed use, office, hospitality, and public-private partnerships. ​

Mike began his legal career as a corporate lawyer at the law firms of Weil, Gotshal & Manges and Cahill Gordon advising clients on securities offerings and corporate governance matters. Mike is a graduate, with honors, of Harvard Law School and Franklin & Marshall College.​
